God is Great

“But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say. “The Lord is great!” Psalm 40:16

God is great. He is greater than the human mind can conceive. Great is His faithfulness for it is new every morning. Great is His love as it crosses all cultures and languages to communicate hope and forgiveness. Great is His salvation for it frees adolescents from the shadow of sin’s influence and rescues adults from the snares of evil’s deceptions.

God is great in the beauty of His holiness. His awe invites reverence and respect that can only bow in the presence of greatness. The grandeur of His glory grips a humble heart and fills it with His grace. God’s greatness goes before those who trust and seek Him. It is in the shadow of His greatness that we feel His presence and are able to persevere.

“Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?” (Deuteronomy 3:24).

So, as you seek Him, He infuses your heart with happiness and joy. Your joy is complete in Christ. You are meant to be glad in God. Be glad for He is great. Be glad for He is good. Be glad for He is genuine. Be glad for He is gracious. Be glad for He is glorious. Be glad for He is holy, loving, wise, forgiving, all knowing and all-powerful.

Gladness gushes from a grateful heart that ponders the greatness of God. It is in recognition and respect of His greatness that Christians desire to live righteously. In the presence of His greatness we desire purity. Thus, as we anticipate His return in His glory one day and when we reflect on His glory today, we are compelled to come clean with Christ.

“It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2:12-14).

Your association with Almighty God’s greatness brings out your great qualities. Greatness is gained when influenced by greatness. Indeed, Jesus described greatness as being a servant to all. The greatest one who ever lived modeled greatness by His humble service. So, seek out those who serve and learn from them—then serve your great God.

“The greatest among you will be your servant” (Matthew 23:11).

How can the greatness of God cause me to gladly be a servant to all?
